Amrut’s Comment

"Prajwal Prakash, probably our youngest guest on the podcast, told me the most fascinating story I've heard in recent times.

For much of 2020 and 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic-related lockdowns forced everyone to stay at home. Places of work and study were operating remotely. At the time, Prajwal, Akash and Neel were students at IIT Madras. As friends, they simply wanted a reason to be with each other and "have something to talk about" in Zoom calls. I would have assumed they would have chosen to play a multi-player video game (Call of Duty?).

Fortunately, they didn't play video games. Instead, they decided to build a product - DeskLamp. They grew it to tens of thousands of users and got pre-incubated at NIRMAAN IITM ... and then made it to Y Combinator for the same. Which is a feat in itself.

When that product didn’t show any signs of hyper-scaling, they didn’t give up. Instead, they quickly reorganised themselves and built a new product - Clueso (YC W23). Which is now scaling rapidly. It's such a fascinating story, you have to listen to the Best Place to Build podcast we recorded with Prajwal."
