"Brain drain isn't about salary. We want to be challenged" | Prof. Prabhu on Startups & Research

Episode Summary

We have heard from two Co-Founders who were students that went on to become builders. What does the “build” journey look like for a member of the faculty? Is there such a thing as a serial entrepreneur/ serial builder? If there was, today’s guest would definitely be a contender for that title. Prof. Prabhu is co-founder and faculty advisor of not one, not two, but seven (as of now) startups that deal with vastly different areas like NDE (hint: not Near Death Experience), Ultrasonics, Blockchains, VR, and Healthcare. The conversation covers everything from what brought Prof Prabhu to IIT Madras in the first place to the startups and his take on life itself.

I discovered during my research that Prof. Prabhu was five years my senior at IIT Madras and he was part of the inaugural batch of Intelligent Manufacturing. Prof. Prabhu is the head of the CFI and is the Co-Founder of 4 great startups with at least three more currently on the way. It was very interesting to talk to him about the changes in the IIT Madras Culture from theoretical learning to practical application. Prof Prabhu is a mechanical engineer but he believes that at the root, all streams of engineering are the same. And, he has agreed that we will soon be doing a separate podcast to talk not about his award or the startups but his poetry. This is an information-packed podcast.
