In today’s episode, watch a journey that started from the Department of Chemical Engineering in IIT Madras and is currently at the new IIT Madras campus at Zanzibar. Professor Raghunathan Rengaswamy is the Dean of the Office of Global Engagement at IIT Madras. He is the co-founder of 3 startups, visiting faculty at the IITM Zanzibar campus and has written 2 books on Process Control Fundamentals and Data Science for Engineers.
Join Amrut as he speaks to Professor Raghu about his student life at IIT Madras, his Doctorate at Purdue University and his interest in AI in Chemical Engineering. Prof Raghu also talks about his experience of teaching both in IIT Bombay and universities abroad. The Professor also talks about his experience with authoring two books and how the term faculty has come to include so much more than it used to when he started as a faculty.
Raghunathan Rengasamy is a professor at IIT Madras, and the first dean of the Office of Global Engagement, IIT Madras (OGE). He is our guest today in the Best Place to Build podcast, and we spoke about a range of things. I was most excited to learn about the IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus (which was led by OGE).
Prof Raghu's field of interest is at the intersection of AI and Chemical Engineering, and he's an accomplished researcher in the field, also an author of books in the same area. He was pushed into this direction a few decades back when he was an undergrad student in Prof. M S Ananth's class. We get to hear about how the legendary professor would grade papers with negative marks only.
