Prajwal Prakash
About Us
Prajwal, known as "PJ" during his time at IIT Madras, is the co-founder of Clueso, an innovative startup that helps SaaS companies create high-quality videos and documentation for their product marketing and customer success teams.
During his time at IIT Madras, Prajwal distinguished himself as both an exceptional student and researcher. He maintained a stellar 9.3 CGPA and was awarded the prestigious Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Prize for academic excellence. His academic journey included significant research work in quantum computing under Professor Anil Prabhakar from the Electrical Engineering department, where he focused on theoretical implementations and algorithmic approaches to quantum systems.
Prajwal's startup journey began during the pandemic with Desklamp, a collaborative PDF reader and note-taking tool designed to enhance online learning. What started as a project to stay connected with friends during remote learning quickly grew into a product used by over 30,000 students across multiple IITs and other colleges.
The success of Desklamp led Prajwal and his co-founders, Akash and Neel, to make the bold decision to pursue entrepreneurship full-time, turning down lucrative placement offers and graduate school opportunities. In 2022, the team was accepted into Y Combinator, one of the world's most prestigious startup accelerators. The YC experience taught them valuable lessons about product-market fit and the importance of building for monetizable markets. After recognizing the challenges of building a sustainable business around student users, they made the strategic decision to pivot and they built Clueso.
Outside of his technical work, Prajwal was actively involved in IIT Madras's cultural scene, participating in the Oratory Club and Comedy Club. He even tried his hand at stand-up comedy during his freshman year, which earned him his nickname "PJ." This diverse range of interests reflects his belief that entrepreneurship allows for the fullest expression of one's skills and creativity—from engineering and product development to marketing and team building.
We interviewed Prajwal for the Best Place to Build Podcast and this is something you just shouldn't miss out on.
